Emotions are remarkable navigation medium. Learn to make the best use of them.

Words have power and emotions are our "sat nav" in our life. So how can we use them?

The phone rings, and I could not hear the person on the other end.

“Hello”. “Are you there?” I asked.

“I am not feeling very well” a croaky voice came over the phone line. It continued, “I won’t be in the office today”.

“Chantelle, is that you?” I hesitantly asked.

“Yes, this is me – Chantelle”. After a sniffle and sneeze, Chantelle hoarsely continued, “I have not slept all night and feel awful”. “Couldn’t sleep a wink all night, and now I feel like, I am dying!” I wished Chantelle, a speedy recovery and at the same time sent happy thoughts that would give her a long healthy life.

At most times, we do not realise that our words have power to create. Words are thoughts articulated. Chantelle and many of us want health and well-being, especially when we are sick. Though we say things that are unwanted, just like Chantelle. She unknowingly asked for more feelings of awfulness with an expressed wish to a shorter life! Our attention on things trigger thoughts. Thoughts and Words have the strength to create whatever we focus and say most.

I learnt my lesson to focus and say only what I want to manifest in my life nearly a decade ago. One day I found myself home alone! I normally don’t get the privilege to have the house to myself. On this occasion, I decided to make the most of this and chose to give the house a thorough spring clean! As I progressed with my cleaning, I started noticing unwanted and unnecessary items, (which should have been placed in the recycle bin or thrown out) still hoarded in various corners of the house. No sooner did my focus fall on old newspapers, I noticed other items, like old magazines and unopened junk mail and even chocolate wrappers!

My mind by this time was racing with umpteen thoughts, “What is this old paper still doing in the magazine stand?” “Why can’t people take the trouble to throw things out?” “If only people are more responsible?” The thoughts were mounting one on top of each other.

My annoyance and frustration was building up, however I did not take any notice, of the heaping irritation and mild anger.

I stayed focused on the task to finish what I had begun. In my aggravation, I opened the door too far towards myself and caught my foot in the door bottom rim!

Instinctively, I swung the door, the other way, but either way I moved the door, the gap squeezed my toe and trodden it.

The throbbing agony and discomfort was so much that I had to stop and sit down. In my quiet contemplation, I reflected; that nothing in my life is an accident. I have the power to create everything in my world. So when and how did I create this experience?

Everything that happens to me or in my world is because, I have created it with my continued focus.

Each time I had focused on unwanted thoughts, a deposit in my current account was added, which collected a debit balance, until it assembled enough vitality to manifest into a full blown harmful incident. Just a few minutes ago, when I was feeling annoyed and anger I deposited my last entry!

This negative energy sips' into our minds, gradually empowering our mind to think disapprovingly. We may not realize that our thinking is destructive and damaging until hours later! Thoughts and attitudes are so subtle to catch. It requires attentiveness and practice to be mindful, especially on an adverse journey towards unwanted creation.

Do we have the knowledge to deal with our emotions? Or do we just suppress and ignore them?

The fantastic news is that our emotions are great feedback mechanism. Even though thoughts maybe the first step in the creation process of our experiences, and what we dream eventually materialises in our life. Our feelings are responsive alert tools and we can use them effectively to warn or guide us on our route towards all our creations!

What is the best way to work with our feelings and challenge some of those that are unhelpful in our life?

Our emotions are the best gauge of what our current thinking is. In short if we are feeling bad. Realise that our thoughts are negative and sooner or later we will create an unwanted condition.

If on the other hand, we are feeling good. Recognise that our thoughts are positive, and ultimately our life will be fun, satisfying, happy, and all our experiences extremely rewarding.

So how often do we look at our feelings in an honest way?

We can use the state of mind or emotional state as a beacon guiding the ship of our life away from the rocks of destructive creations. We can stop undesirable creation in its track. When we listen to our emotions as warning bells and manage any contrary thoughts and nonconstructive words and replace them with beneficial and well-intended inspirations and expressions.

Once we master this know-how, we will be cruising our life ship always in the safe waters, deliberately designing grand experiences in our life.
